Frequently Asked Questions

What age can my child start dance?

Children can begin as early as 2 years old in our Mini Movers program. At this age, classes focus on movement, coordination, musicality, confidence and social development in a fun, structured environment.

Why are classes shorter for younger children?

This is one of the most important parts of early childhood dance training. Children under 6 have a naturally limited attention span for structured learning. It is developmentally rare for them to maintain consistent focus for more than 30 minutes at a time. Because of this, our younger classes (Mini Movers and early Little Movers programs) are intentionally shorter so that every minute is productive, engaging and meaningful.

Shorter classes mean:

  • Better focus throughout the entire lesson

  • Higher quality learning and skill retention

  • Less fatigue and frustration

  • More confidence and enjoyment

  • Stronger long-term love of dance

We don’t believe in “longer for the sake of longer” — we believe in age-appropriate training that actually works for the child.

What will my child actually learn in class?

Even in our youngest classes, dancers learn structured foundations including:

  • Coordination and body awareness

  • Rhythm and musicality

  • Basic dance steps and technique

  • Listening skills and following instruction

  • Confidence in a group environment

  • Creativity and imaginative movement

As they progress, these foundations build into more formal technique.

Can parents watch classes?

We understand parents love to watch, especially in the early years. Observation opportunities may be offered at select times throughout the term. However, we encourage independent participation as it helps children build confidence and focus in class.

My child is shy — will they be okay?

Absolutely. It is completely normal for young dancers to take time to settle in. Our teachers are highly experienced in early childhood dance and are skilled at helping shy or hesitant children feel safe, included and supported at their own pace.

Most children grow in confidence very quickly once they feel comfortable in the environment.

What should my child wear?

Comfortable activewear is fine for trial classes. Once enrolled, students will be guided toward appropriate uniform requirements depending on their style of dance.

Hair should be neatly tied back and away from the face for all classes.

Do boys attend your classes?

Yes absolutely. Dance is for everyone. We offer specific programs like Boys Crew, as well as mixed classes where boys are fully welcome and encouraged.

What happens if we miss a class?

We understand that life with children can be unpredictable. While make-up classes may be offered depending on availability, this is managed on a case-by-case basis.

Do you offer trials?

Yes. We offer trial classes so families can experience the studio, teaching style and class structure before committing to enrolment. We often recommend a second trial if families are unsure, to ensure the best possible class placement.

How do I know which class is right for my child?

We guide all families through placement based on:

  • Age

  • Experience

  • Confidence level

  • Focus and maturity

  • Dance goals (fun, training, performance, etc.)

We always prioritise the best fit for the child, not just age alone.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Our philosophy is simple:

We build strong dancers by building confident humans first. Technique, discipline and training are important — but they must sit alongside joy, creativity, encouragement and a genuine love of movement.

Do I need to re-enrol each term?

No. Once enrolled, your child’s place is held for the duration of the calendar year (unless you advise otherwise).

This provides consistency for families and ensures dancers can continue building skills week to week without interruption.

Does enrolment guarantee my child’s place in class?

Yes. Once your child is enrolled, their place in that class is secured for the duration of the calendar year (unless otherwise discussed or requested). We do not operate on a casual or drop-in system for ongoing classes, as consistency is essential for both learning and class cohesion — particularly in dance training where skills are built progressively each week.

If a student wishes to change classes, this can be arranged at any time, subject to availability.

This approach supports:

  • Stable class environments

  • Strong teacher–student connections

  • Clear learning progression

  • Confidence and routine for dancers

Can I discontinue enrolment?

Yes. If you need to discontinue your enrolment, we kindly ask that notice is provided in writing. As enrolment reserves a dedicated place in a class for the year structure, once discontinuation is confirmed, that place is released and may be offered to another student. We understand that circumstances can change, and we will always do our best to support families through transitions as smoothly as possible.

Why is uniform and grooming enforced?

Uniform and grooming standards are an important part of dance training and studio culture.

A uniform ensures all dancers are dressed appropriately for movement, safety, and technique. It allows teachers to clearly see body alignment, posture, and corrections without distraction from clothing, which is essential for proper technical development.

It also creates:

  • A sense of unity and belonging within the studio

  • Equality among students (no focus on brand or fashion differences)

  • A professional learning environment that reflects real dance industry standards

  • Mental readiness — putting on uniform helps dancers switch into “class mode”

Grooming standards (such as hair tied back neatly and securely) are equally important for safety and focus. Loose hair can be distracting, obstruct vision, and interfere with movement and spotting. While it may seem small, these expectations build discipline, respect for training, and good habits that carry through into higher-level dance and performance environments. Our goal is never to be restrictive — it is to create the best possible learning environment where every dancer can focus, grow, and succeed.
